TEAM UP FOR DEMOCRACY
Information and requirements

TEAM UP FOR DEMOCRACY is a poll worker recruitment program which allows participating organizations to “adopt” a polling place, raise funds for their organization, and provide a valued service to their Country. A true win-win situation!

Sworn Election Officers, Inspectors and Clerks, appointed by the Monterey County Registrar of Voters, administer voting in Monterey County.  Election Officers are responsible for conducting voting activities in strict accordance with the Election Codes of the State of California with the end goal of preserving the democratic process.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
At least 18 years of age and a registered voter in Monterey County, or
A high school student at least 16 years of age with a grade point average of 2.5 or better
US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
Provide the Elections Office with a copy of each member’s Social Security Card
Read and write English
Work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until all duties are complete (approximately 9:30 p.m.). Your organization will be able to split the day in several shifts.
Inspectors and Clerks must attend an assigned 2.5 hour training class, per election (drop-in’s may not be accommodated)
Have transportation to and from the polling place
Some locations require the presence of an English/Spanish bilingual Election Officer

DUTIES OF INSPECTORS AND CLERKS INCLUDE:
Prepare, open, and close the polling place
Issue and accept official ballots
Assist voters in all phases of the voting process
Perform all required duties

THE INSPECTOR MUST:
Act as the point of contact between the organization and Elections Office
Submit all required documents including names and contact information for all clerks in a timely manner
Inform the Elections Office of personnel changes
Be in charge of the Polling Place and Precinct Board on Election Day (must be present all day)
Assign duties to Clerks
Receive and check election supplies
Call clerks to ensure they attend their assigned training  class and confirm they will work on Election Day
Arrange access to the polling place before election day for early set-up and election morning
If required at your location, ensure an English/Spanish bilingual Election Officer is present at all times
