NOTICE OF LOCAL MEASURES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the following measures will be voted upon by the qualified electors of the County of Monterey on Tuesday, June 3, 2014

 

GONZALES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
SCHOOL FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 1
BOND MEASURE ELECTION
(55% Voter Approval Required)

Measure N
"To improve the quality of education, increase student access to computers, modern technology; construct a new elementary school to reduce student overcrowding; make health, safety and security improvements; modernize, upgrade, and renovate outdated classrooms, restrooms and school facilities; shall the Gonzales Unified School District School Facilities Improvement District No. 1 issue $16,900,000 of bonds at legal rates, have an independent citizens' oversight committee and NO money for administrative salaries or taken by the State?"

 

MONTEREY PENINSULA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT
(majority voter approval required)
Measure O

"Shall the ordinance, Measure O, which directs the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District to adopt a policy to move toward public ownership of all water systems within its boundaries by conducting a feasibility study, and if deemed feasible, move forward with acquisition of all such water systems' assets, be adopted?"

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that primary arguments in favor of or against the above measures may be submitted in writing to the Monterey County Elections Department, 1370 B South Main Street, Salinas, CA 93901, for printing and distribution to the voters, pursuant to provisions of the California Elections Code, by 5:00 P.M., on or before Mach 14, 2014Rebuttal arguments by authors of said primary arguments may be filed with the Office of Monterey County Elections in like manner by 5:00 P.M., on or before March 24, 2014

Printed arguments submitted to voters shall be titled either "Argument in Favor of Measure ___" or "Argument Against Measure ___", and "Rebuttal to Argument in Favor of Measure ____" or "Rebuttal to Argument Against Measure ___" respectively.

All arguments concerning the above measures must be accompanied by the following form statement to be signed by each author and proponent, if different, of the argument:

The undersigned proponent(s) or author(s) of the __________ (primary/rebuttal) argument ____________ (in favor of/against) Ballot Measure ___ at the ____________________ (title of election) for the ____________ (name of jurisdiction) to be held on ______________ (date of election), hereby state that such argument is true and correct to the best of ______________ (his/her/their) knowledge and belief.

No primary argument shall exceed 300 words and no rebuttal argument shall exceed 250 words in length.  One argument for and one rebuttal thereto, if any, on the measure will be selected for printing and distribution to the voters.  No more than five signatures shall appear with any argument.

The authors of the primary arguments in favor of or against such measures may prepare and submit rebuttal arguments not exceeding 250 words, or may authorize in writing any other person or persons to prepare, submit, or sign the rebuttal argument. 

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that there shall be set a 10-calendar day examination period for public review of said arguments.  During this time, any registered voter of the election jurisdiction, or the elections official, may seek a writ of mandate or an injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted.  The review period for primary arguments in favor of or against ballot measures shall commence at 5:00 P.M., on March 14, 2014 and shall end at 5:00 P.M. on March 24, 2014.  The review period for rebuttals to primary arguments in favor of or against ballot measures shall commence at 5:00 P.M., on March 24, 2014 and shall end at 5:00 P.M. on April 3, 2014. 

 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that voted Precinct, Vote by Mail and Provisional Ballots for the Consolidated Election, held on Tuesday, the 3th day of June, 2014, shall be tallied at the location given below:

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at such election the polls will be open from the hour of 7:00 A.M. to the hour of 8:00 P.M., on the day thereof.
